1000 Moons: A tale
I awoke from a dream that was fuzzy and full of shadow to a voice that clearly said “In 1000 moons you will be complete”. That was November 9th, 2019. I sat with it for a few days. After some inner guidance I decided that 1000 moons equaled 1000 days. 1000 phases of the celestial companion that rides the waves of our mother and stirs the depths of her oceans.
Today, 1000 days have passed.
In the margins of a journal I wrote the date August 5, 2022 and let my body and soul hold the day as a point to which I would walk toward with integrity. I would embrace life (something I was already doing) and see where these roughly 2 1/2 years would take me.
Clearly my past self had no clue what was coming. She did know some things- she was on her way to finding peace from her lifetime of monthly pain and days of suffering (hysterectomy). She was also in the shadows of dream tending at that time and was shown clearly weeks later that this 1000 moons was an initiation into a deeper connection with self and the Divine. A launching point for a new stage of life.
These 1000 days were mine to prepare.
The world events of the coming years shaped me, sharpened me, gave me a clarity I’m unsure I would have found so quickly under different circumstances.
This last week I have once again been in awe of the Spirit. My body stepped forward to offer a profound healing, an offering to be clear of old and still living emotions. To be present with what needs to be seen and known from the depths of my emotional body.
I have stared at the stars and felt dizzy with their imprint within my skin, searing my mind with the patterns that find themselves into my bones and upon the broken ivory page.
Today, I will witness my two daughters walk into a school for the first time at age 14. Today, I will witness myself as something other than just Mom.
Where I go from these 1000 days I will gather as the threshold is crossed.
The Story: Tend to the Living
To distill all I have gathered in these 1000 days I will share it as only my storyteller heart can share, with a story.
Within this world there is a large ancient tree growing for each of us. It houses the lifetimes of each soul. It stands taller than the clouds, yet it feels like home when you rest yourself upon the roots and take stock.
The tree gives no answers, it only remembers. It offers shade, warmth, comfort. On this special day you have traveled to visit your tree because you have something you desire to understand that is just outside of your knowing. The quiet companionship of the tree helps you focus and still your mind.
Together you and the Ancestor tree share the morning. It stands admiring your growth as a soul, the youthful impatience of wanting to understand. You in turn watch the sun rise and the world awaken. The meadow before you begins to fill with insects, the quiet push of rabbits between the the tall grasses. The flowers open their faces to the warmth of the day. A deer steps out of the forest edge and eases herself and doe to the fresh sweet grasses that fill the meadow before you. As butterflies dance and bees buzz you ease into a state of blissful peace. The pulse of life is felt within. You become connected, one with all that is around you. You notice the gentle nudge of the tree within your mind guiding you to feel further than your eyes can take you.
You lean back against the rough bark and close your eyes. The world beneath you is a pulse of life, earthworms and ants. The burrow of baby rabbits. Moles at work. As your awareness pushes you forward in the darkness of the life underworld you sense something large looms above. Your vision is beyond the meadow. It’s standing on a ledge overlooking the area near your tree. You see a decay that is spread upon an area of pines. They are brown and dying. The needles are rough chimes that scratch at your hearing. A large wolf pads quietly down the thin rocky path. Sniffing the air, making its way towards the meadow.
Back in body you open your eyes and watch as the deer stills. A quiet contemplation has become a deep witness of the world as it is in its purest form. Life goes forward, each and every day. The life pulse flows and the decay of death echos. Both serve the whole.
The earth was the gift of Spirit to all of us. Nature is the guide and map to all the wisdom sought. Nature does not live in the problem, or the struggle. It tends to the living. Not the living as in that which is alive, rather the living of the day.
From the starlight of dawn to the dusty bronze of dusk we are offered the lessons of tending to the living. Each and every being - plant, animal, stone - they are all part of the whole. Offered to the living.
Live the day, despite the decay. Live the day, regardless of the dangers. Live the day and raise yourself to the task of what living the day means.
Tend to the Living.

I will tend and check back soon with my gathered tales.
