Here we are on the cusp of Autumn. If ever there is a time when change is obvious it’s in the Fall. Autumn seems to wear her dress of yellows and golds and declare her intentions for a good long rest. I can almost smell the apples ripe, pumpkin pie ready to eat. The following article was written with change in mind- but it ended up being about the unknown. I’m reprinting it here with a few minor changes while I rest up from a cold. Enjoy!
I used to detest change.
I could see it coming from a hundred miles away. I would build stone walls of refusal that I thought would block the shifts, eyes closed in denial I would wait.
Eventually change would make its way into my life like a wrecking ball leaving me unhappy and full of regret.
I didn’t like change because I couldn’t stand the idea of not being prepared for what came next- I had zero belief in my ability to adapt and survive.
Change is rarely polite, but always effective
Change, by its very nature is fluid, mercurial. It asks only that it move forward, and even then it’s not really asking.
Each day inside your body millions of cells die and are reborn. You are a walking vision of change and yet you will do all that you can to keep life from shifting into the future so the safety of the known surrounds you.
To be fair, our issue isn’t with change, our issue is with the unknown that comes with change.
We are not discussing change that is abrupt- accidents, heart attacks, earthquakes. Change that causes trauma is a topic for another time.
The change that we need to learn to embrace is gradual, methodical. It is the change that can move mountains- in life this is where endless possibilities rest. It is also where we muck up the process.
When given the time, the mind will attempt to anticipate how tomorrow will look, taste, feel. When we don’t embrace the unknown and allow our powerful mind to create what we desire in each tomorrow, we will fill it instead with fear.
Fear will get creative and start generating all the horrible possibilities that are coming our way, replaying them over and over in our mind. Despite our eternal desire to succeed, our thoughts will deliver us the chaos and destruction we spent so much time worrying about.
Thoughts are our allies or our nemesis. The way we spend our time thinking about the unknown is what creates our tomorrows.
Truth 1: Fear of change is fear of the unknown.
Do you really want to ruin your own day?
The unknown is where the most profound possibilities live.
Our mind is a well of constructive and destructive force. The way we perceive change activates how it will play out in our lives.
If we welcome with open arms the opportunity to bring the highest and best into our life- it will arrive.
We are the vectors of our own fate.
Allowing for a flexible mind with determined thoughts assists us to discover that the changes happening are in our best interest- bringing us more and more possibilities for success.
Truth 2: All we need to succeed is found in embracing the unknown with purposeful thinking.
The lie: You won’t be safe unless you know the outcome
The idea that we are safer living a quiet life, away from conflict, eating bland foods and watching old reruns is the biggest lie we will ever tell ourselves.
Your brilliant light wasn’t birthed for simple acts of safety. You were created so that new trails can be blazed, life can be lived, greatness can be found inside your smile.
Discovering who you are is one of the bravest acts that you will ever undertake.
It will require courage and a willingness to step into the unknown. If you were given the power to know the outcome in every situation, you would underestimate how grand an opportunity is possessed within you every time.
This is why the unknown is the gift Spirit gave us, so we can enjoy the fun of discovering all that we are capable of in each experience.
Understanding who you are is important.
Embracing the unknown parts of you is vital to your continued evolution. The only way to meet the you waiting to be discovered is to step up and walk out into the unknown.
Uncontrollable forces will destroy and then recreate. Everything will work out, but it all won’t be okay, it will be tremendous.
What is one unknown you are facing? Please share it here and let us all support you in your process of embracing your possibilities.
May we all be a bit more extravagant with our expansive thoughts, allowing for the unknown to be an experience of bliss. May Spirit deliver all we are willing to hope for and receive.
Wish you a beautiful weekend,
