The Small but Mighty Trail We Tread is Littered with Signs of Comfort
Guideposts: Finding the Path We're Already On
The following is a post I wrote nearly a year ago about searching for the little signs in life to know I’m on the right path. I’ve remapped the content to remain relevant, aligning with my current understanding of esoteric traditions.
There is likely nothing that drives me more crazy than not knowing which direction I’m going. In fact, I am your neighbor on the plane that watches the route to our destination just so I have the feel of directional awareness.
Life, when I’m paying attention, is actually much easier to discern directionally than a cloudy day in a new state with no visible landmarks.
Much like the social media equivalent of a like button, the universe is providing little signs in daily life that say “keeping going, you’re doing great!” or “Woah, are you sure you want this?” When harnessed these signs can be utilized to help us stay on track.
Guideposts: it’s all in the name
I started utilizing the term guideposts after an exceptionally long hike up a very steep mountain with my then seven year old daughters and husband. Those little paint swipes showed us that indeed we should still be climbing straight up the side of the mountain, no switch back in sight. After two hours of upward struggle I knew the small lake at the end of the trail would be the grandest of rewards (I wasn’t wrong), and that the food we would consume upon our arrival would taste like a grand meal (it did).
Nothing like an enduring hike to give life metaphor.
Life is very much like this upward climb. It seems endless, your calves hurt and all you want to do is eat and watch something on television. Here is where guideposts come in.
We are provided guideposts along the way just like the park system swipes paint on trees to let us know we aren’t lost. These tiny reflections in life let us know we aren’t alone. In fact, guideposts can cause laughter, sensations of love, even provide the feeling of a hug.
Recalling the possible
Guideposts are present even when we aren’t paying attention. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors and themes. They are personally tailored to our personal vibration and supported by our Guides to keep up moving— what may mean nothing to one person is a giant green light to another.
Utilizing our mundane experiences to support our pathways is a favorite past time of our Guides. It also happens through the Law of Synthesis which is more advanced than the simple ways we are discussing today.
The most important thing to keep in mind is this: If it seems as if you are in the flow, and everything is aligning, it is. That’s Synthesis at work.
It’s easy to see some of the guideposts already present in life:
Hearing your favorite song just when you need it. (Thanks Angels!)
Duplicating numbers: on the dashboard of a car, on the clocks in the house, receipt or dollar figure at the store, to name a few. I once had a person repeat a number three times to me in a random way that even made her stop after she said it and look a bit perturbed at her outburst.
The sight of an animal- insect, furry or otherwise.
The smell of a certain kind of food that is out of place- usually associated with a strong memory.
Color that is associated with a strong memory or holds personal significance.
A repeating word, phrase, or topic of discussion that holds personal value.
This is not an exhausted list. Synthesis is present in all things. Our Guides can get really creative to get our attention. Note: it doesn’t matter if we want what we are creating, intention and actions are the driving force. Think the good thoughts, do good work. If you think more about the outcome you don’t want than the outcome you do, guess what’s going to happen?
Wish you Love, Light, and the Power of Joy,

Revelation! I am exactly this way, too! On my last trip to and from Seattle, I was doing that the whole way. Now, what mountains are these? Which state looks like this? Which way are we approaching? Ah, yes, I see we’re coming up SE of Mt. Rainier. We took a different route home, and that was even more challenging. Now I realize that I feel crazy when I don’t know which direction I’m going, physically or spiritually. And the latter, for me, is especially unsettling. Yet I have to ask myself why I find myself in those positions so often.
